Bakán
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

DOC RISERVA

It originates from one of the most suitable areas of Abruzzo for growing wine, from an old vineyard trained with the Tendon-system, at an ideal altitude to ensure a formidable thermal excursion and with a magnificent exposure.

Vinification in thermo-conditioned steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. 6 months-maturation in cement vats, then 12 months in barriques, to be bottled in the total absence of oxygen and aged for a further 6 months.

Bakán
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Riserva

Bakán DOC Riserva is produced in Ancarano and Controguerra, in the province of Teramo. It derives from a fifty-year-old vine, at an altitude of 290 meters above sea level and with a splendid south-south-east exposure.

100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes, harvested by hand in the second half of October, in an Abruzzi Pergola training system and from certified organic farming.

The wine-making process happens in temperature-controlled steel vats, and at the end of malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in cement vats for 6 months, then matures in used barriques for a further 12 months and refines in the bottle for at least another 6.

How to match
Bakàn Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC Riserva

It takes some time for this wine to open up and reveal itself. That’s why we recommend opening it a little before enjoying it, at a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees, in a large glass with a wide rim.

It is excellent with well-structured and tasty dishes: aperitifs, starters, first courses, vegetarian food, red meat, and medium and long matured cheeses.

We picture it with salami, pappardelle with meat sauce, garganelli with walnut and celery sauce, stuffed beef rolls, or a pecorino-marcetto from Castel del Monte.

Grape variety characteristics

The vine has found wide diffusion in Abruzzo and along the Adriatic coast. The variety is fairly homogeneous, the differential characters concern the shape of the bunch, the presence of green millerandage before maturation, the ripening time, and the organoleptic characteristics of the product.

It gives an intense ruby red colored wine, with a characteristic, vinous scent, dry, fruity, tannic, not acidic, of good body structure, velvety, rightly alcoholic.
